Marion County, Missouri, 911 Facility

The newly constructed 911 facility for Marion County is located on a 19 acre wooded site north of Hannibal, Missouri.  This facility has approximately 5,900 square feet of floor space which accommodates six dispatch stations, four offices, a training room (which will serve as the emergency management control center when necessary), a kitchen/break room and a shower room, as well as other related features.

This facility was designed with tornado resistivity in mind.  The exterior walls are 4 inch concrete block over reinforced insulated concrete forms.  This is an extremely energy efficient system, as well as very structurally sound.  Inside the building, there are designated areas which are protected by ballistic glazing and panels.

The roof of this structure is also extremely structurally sound, being a reinforced concrete slab that is attached to the concrete walls.  The roofing surface itself is a 60 mil single ply membrane over tapered insulation.

Other features of this project include extensive site development.  There was provision of:

  • approximately 1,000 feet of road work,
  • visitors’ and employees’ parking lots,
  • a  dumpster enclosure,
  • a storm water detention area,
  • a sewage disposal field,
  • an HVAC system that includes redundancy, and
  • site lighting.

The building site also has an extensive electrical grounding system because of the sensitive electrical nature of this building, as well as the communications tower.
