STERLING VILLAS SUBDIVISION PSBA was hired by the United Way of Brown County to design their low income housing project. The final design consisted of 8 tri-plexes and a large community building. Each tri-plex consisted of two units of two bedrooms each for approximately 1,066 square feet and a single one bedroom unit of 867 square feet. The community building was centrally located to serve all the residents and is approximately 4,100 square feet. This community building consisted of a large meeting room, a small meeting room, a kitchen, social services offices, a tornado shelter and restrooms. The community building is located in the center of the facility in a grassy area which is designated for outdoor recreational activities by the residents. Other features of the site include a large maintenance garage, water retention, more than adequate parking for residents and their visitors. The site is slightly larger than 4 acres. The unique feature of this facility is that it was designed with the residents in mind. The travel distance from the parking lot to the front door of each unit is 20 feet and each unit has a private back yard of 30 feet or more. This development more closely resembles a typical subdivision development and does not project a low income feeling.
