Southeastern Community College Fire Training Center, Fort Madison, Iowa
This project involved construction of a Regional Emergency Response Training Center in Fort Madison for Southeastern Community College. This training center allows emergency response personnel to train in a realistic and safe facility.
The center piece of the training facility is the Skills Tower along with other areas for training opportunities such as fighting fires and training on the “Jaws of Life”.
The Training Center is located on an 11.5 acre tract of ground in Fort Madison. During an unusually heavy rain storm in 2008 a large portion of the property was flooded because of overflow water from Devil’s Creek. In order to keep the Training facility from flooding in the future the area was raised with earth fill. Water (for fire fighter training and drinking) and sewer service were extended during construction from nearby locations to serve the site.
The skills tower was constructed off-site by Draeger Safety and placed on foundations designed by PSBA.
This project was completed in 2010.
