Therapy Building, IL Veterans Home, Quincy, Illinois
PSBA was selected by the State of Illinois to plan the construction of a Therapy Building at the Illinois
Veterans Home in Quincy, Illinois. PSBA provided all plans, specifications, etc. for the construction of the
Therapy Building and provided the construction observation. The building contains the following activity
areas:
A Hydro Therapy Department consisting of a therapeutic swimming pool for able-bodied, &
handicapped patients. The pool is four feet deep & sized for twenty patients. The pool has a special floor
which can be raised or lowered to accommodate the needs of the users. The pool areas have changing
rooms with lockers, showers & toilet facilities. The Hydro Therapy Department required 9,000 square
feet.
A 4,000 square foot Occupational Therapy Department. This department included a Craft Area that
provided space for ceramics, lapidary, weaving & woodworking. There is a studio area for art &
photography. Also included is a re-motivational training greenhouse with an adjoining outdoor raised
bed growing area.
A Multi-disciplinary rehabilitation area which included a Medical Examination Room for patient
assessment, a Podiatrist Treatment Room, an Audiology Laboratory, a Speech Therapy Laboratory, and a
Dental Examination/Treatment Room. The multi-disciplinary therapy area will be used by specialized
consultants & medical professionals for evaluations & treatment of specific infirmities as an extension of
the facility’s total therapy program.
