Carthage Community Trail, Carthage, Illinois
PSBA is currently working with the Carthage Park District on development of a new 10 foot wide multi-purpose recreational trail from the courthouse square in the center of Carthage to, and through, the Carthage Park. When complete the trail will be approximately 2¼ miles long and will connect the historic Hancock County square with the old Nauvoo-Carthage road.
The trail will provide a safe, accessible route for pedestrians and bicyclers to travel from downtown Carthage to the Carthage Municipal swimming pool and the Carthage Park. The trail will then wind though the park; providing users scenic views of the park, Carthage Municipal Lake and the Carthage golf course.
Major items of work for this is project will include approximately 5,400 cubic yards of earth excavation, 13,000 square yards of aggregate base course, 2,100 tons of hot-mix asphalt surface course and 12,000 square feet of decorative retaining walls along with erosion control and restoration work.
