Villa Kathrine Visitors Center, Quincy, Illinois
This project consisted of the design and restoration of the interior of the Villa Kathrine, a two story
“Moorish” style stucco house built in 1900 on the bluff overlooking the Mississippi River. The Villa
Kathrine building serves as a Tourism Information Center on the Great River Road. The work involved in
this (Phase II) project included interior work; such as plaster repair, electrical work, and plumbing work.
Other interior work consisted of structural repairs of the North Oriel, activating the interior pool in the
center of a “sky-lighted” courtyard. Interior woodwork was restored and in some locations decorative
woodwork such as balustrades were replicated. There was a limited amount of exterior work, such as:
stucco repair and painting, storm windows, porch repairs and adding a handicapped lift.
