Reconstruction of Avenue E from 15th Street to 18th Street, Fort Madison, Iowa
Poepping, Stone, Bach & Associates (PSBA) provided Design Engineering services to the City of Fort Madison for the following:
Design for the reconstruction of Avenue “E” from 15th Street to 18th Street. The new pavement is 8” thick P.C. Concrete pavement. The project included new ADA accessible sidewalk ramps at all intersections and necessary improvements to the storm sewer system within the project limits. Significant work items included 6,200 square yards of new P.C. Concrete pavement, 3,120 feet of sub-drain pipe, 420 square yards of new P.C. Concrete sidewalk, 200 square feet of detectable warning panels for curb ramps, and 7 storm sewer intakes, together with associated appurtenances.
PSBA completed engineering surveys and prepared preliminary and final plans. Additionally, contract documents, standard general conditions, supplemental conditions, and special provisions were drafted by PSBA.
PSBA also prepared the final estimate of construction costs for the project and assisted the City in selecting the lowest responsible bidder to award the contract.
Construction Engineering consisted of construction staking (surveying) services; construction observation/inspection services, on-site materials (concrete) testing, PCC plant monitor services to ensure federal engineering and construction requirements were met. PSBA assisted in coordinating construction activities with the contractor, the City and other contractors working in the area.
This project was completed, substantially, in Fall of 2013. Final cleanup and seeding was conducted in the Spring of 2014.
