Project Details

Client: HOK and Adams County

Size: 72,000sf

Services: Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering

The Adams County Detention and Law Enforcement Center at 509 Broadway, 535 Vermont and 537 Vermont St. serves as the headquarters for the Quincy Police Department, Adams County Sheriff’s Office, and County Jail.

PSBA, Inc provided the Civil Site Design and Structural Design Services for the new 72,000 sf building as designed by Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum, Inc. of Chicago, IL. This project consists of a new Detention Center, Sheriff’s Office and Quincy Police Department built directly east of the existing Adams County Courthouse. The facility is half new jail and half law enforcement center.

The 180-bed adult Detention Center creates more bed space, allows improved inmate classification and treatment opportunities that are unavailable at the current facility. The Law Enforcement Center provides new office space for the Adams County Sheriff and relocates the Quincy Police Department into this facility.

The new facility will greatly improve processing of inmates, safety of detention center employees, increase joint use of law enforcement functions between Sheriff’s office and Quincy Police.

Bids were opened in August of 2017 and Williams Brothers Construction Inc. of Peoria, IL was awarded a $32,550,000 contract by the Adams County Board.
